This month may mark the first year since we started quarantine but we cannot deny the fact that it's still pretty hard for some to cope up especially those who are not used to spending long hours just sitting in front of the computer.
This new normal may have affected most of us — not just our lifestyle but also the way we work. The work-at-home set-up is not for everyone and it may be giving others a hard time adjusting. So go ahead and ask yourself, do you do some activities so you can be confident about your health? If you are not confident about your answer, I assure you that you are placing your overall health at risk.
How long have you been doing your work? Sitting in front of your computer? Scrolling on your phone? Has it been an hour? Three hours?
There are some days that can really be hectic so here's a short list that you can follow to relieve somehow relieve your stress:
-Step back for a moment and take a break!
If you are doing something right now, stop for awhile and reflect. Do not be guilty, it's okay to pause. A break can be really helpful to refocus your attention if you experience brain fog or feel absent-minded. Maybe you can have some coffee or tea as you take your break. Taking a moment to recharge alone gives you time to reflect on yourself and understand why you are feeling the way you are. This short pause can actually help reboot your brain to be more tuned in.
-Move around.
Being idle is not good so go ahead and stand up. Do a little bit of exercise like rotating your neck clockwise then vice-versa —this way, you can improve your blood circulation. I've read somewhere that Standing up and walking around for five minutes every hour during the workday could lift your mood, combat lethargy without reducing focus and attention, and even dull hunger pangs.
-Rest your eyes 👁
This can help your eyes since it has already been strained from your constant staring in your laptop or digital gadget. Closing your eyes calms your mind and relaxes your muscles and organs. Many refer to it as “quiet wakefulness”. When you rest your eyes, you essentially tell your body it's safe and can take a break from focusing or thinking.
-Think happy thoughts.
Focus on the good things, set a positive intention, introspect and reflect on the way you feel.This practice will help to retrain your habitual thought patterns to bring more positive thoughts into your life.
-Listen to your fave music.
It's heart healthy. I've read it once that it showed up in a research that blood flows more easily when music is played. It elevates the mood. Music can boost the brain's production of the hormone dopamine and reduces stress.
