Tips to avoid being scammed online

Scammers can gather a lot of information about you by looking at your social media posts. They can steal your identity, access your online bank account, and steal your hard-earned money by using your personal details.

Here are tips to avoid becoming an easy target on social media:
  1. Never post pictures of your passport, credit cards, boarding passes, government IDs, bank statements, and other confidential IDs and documents.
  2. Avoid posting information on public spaces that may be answers to your security questions: birthdays, mother’s maiden name, the street where you grew up, pet’s name, favorite teacher’s name, a favorite song, etc.
  3. Adjust your privacy settings so you can choose only who can see your posts. For Facebook, go to Account Settings then Privacy Settings. For Instagram, go to Settings then Privacy. For Twitter, go to Settings and Privacy.
  4. Do not add people you do not actually know.
They may be scammers in disguise.BDO encourages clients to report suspicious incidents to ReportPhish@bdo.com.ph or get in touch with its representatives by logging in Messenger and looking for BDO Customer Care with the blue verified checkmark from Facebook.
